James attested on the 19 October 1914 as a Farrier in the Army Service Corps at Burnley and was given the number T3/022464, he earned an Immediate Award of the Meritorious Service Medal. His M.S.M. citation appeared in the London Gazette on the 3 June 1919; In recognition of valuable services rendered with the Armies in France and Flanders.
He also received 14/15 Trio and the 1937 Coronation medal, served in WW11 probably with the Civil Defence? being awarded the Defence Medal.
