Johns the first Husband of my Great Grandmother, Born Farnworth,
Bolton 1886
His Father Thomas was widowed and living at 18 Boot Street, Burnley on
the 1911 Census. John had split with my Great Grandmother Betsy Hilton
and was listed as being at the Salvation Army Dormitory in Bradford by
1911.
He enlisted with the 1st Bn East Lancs on 22 April 1914 at Burnley Private
5626 (Having joined the Lancashire Fusiliers Reserves in 1903) and went
to France 17 March 1915.
He was admitted to No3 CCS at Contalmaison on the 2nd of July 1916, presumable
from being wounded on Redan Ridge on the 1st of July. He was transferred
to the Labour Corps (Private 194321) and Discharged Wounded 5 Mar 1919.
I’ve no idea what happened to him or his Father after this
