"John
William Medley was born in Burnley on 24th March 1882. His parents were
Isaac Medley and Martha (nee Frankland) He was the 5th of six children,
and the only boy.
Jack married
Amy Mason on 3rd September 1912, at the Ebenezer Chapel in Burnley, and
his daughter Ida was born 9 ½ months later in June 1913.
Family stories had told us he served in the army, in France, and that
he spent much time either in the front line trenches or behind the lines
near Paris. The only other details we knew were that he followed the first
tanks into action."
After
the war Jack established his own Newsagents shop at 118 Brunshaw Rd, in
Burnley – just 3 houses down from the Burnley FC ground at Turf
Moor
