Private John Mulrooney
3237 2nd Lancashire Fusiliers
Born 1890
Ex Coal miner
Lived at 18 Oakhill Street
Gassed 7th May 1915

"My grandfather, John Mulrooney joined the 3rd Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, B Coy (3237) on the 10.08.08. He went to France on the 04.01.15 and was discharged on the 11.08.15 having completed his service. I suppose he was very lucky to have started in 1908.
His father, also John Mulrooney (possibly 8108 Seaforth Highlanders) was born in 1867, so he may have been a bit old to have been in active service. It could be a solution though, as although his spouse Mary Mulrooney is down as married on the 1911 census John Mulrooney is not listed at 18 Oakhill Street. He is also missing from the 1901 census, although, again, his spouse is recorded as being married not widowed. "
