Private James Pilling

To France 22 September 1914. Transferred into the 2/6th Battalion, Scottish Rifles number 242004 following several terms of imprisonment for “drunkenness”. Discharged on the 24 February 1917 to work in the Steel Industry at Consett, Durham. Silver War Badge (SWB) 411066 (Wounds) this shows discharge as 21 January 1918.

I came across a "next of kin" ledger today at the museum for those of the 1st Loyals who had gone to France from 12 August 1914 to circa early November 1914.
