"He is mentioned in the 1/5th War Diary for gallantry rescuing wounded 8 August 1915 yet never got an award. On his MIC he claims a "gallantry award" this was 1924 when a patient in the Mens Ward, Whittingham Hospital. Must have gone mad, but remembered his act in Gallipoli, one of thousands no doubt that went unrewarded."
