"My Grandfather was enlisted into the Pals from Burnley, Fought during the attack on Serre and was hit by three to six bullets from the German side.

After a few day lying wounded he was dragged out of the shell hole by his pals and spent the remaining six months in various hospitals before returning to England"

"As I mentioned my Grandfather on my mother’s side John Terry who was born in 1898 was hit during the battle of the Somme. His Mother, my Great Grandmother was a nurse at that time and after hearing the bad news she travelled alone to northern France and took care of her son for three months until he was sufficiently well for them to return to England. He live to be around 47 years old and died early due to health complications. My mother mentioned that often his War wounds would re-open and need cleaning and disinfecting causing great pain and made his life difficult. Sadly I never met my Grandfather"
