He lived then at 3 Lubbock St., Burnley, later moving to 3 Adamson Street in 1918 and then later to Keith Street. He became a manager at Walmsley's Peel cotton mill in Gannow Lane.
He was in the Royal Field Artillery, 42nd (East Lancashire) Division, 1st East Lancashire Brigade, the Brigade 210 Burnley Battery, from 1914-19.
