“Born 11th September 1898, enlisted in Burnley
on the 28th August 1916 into the 4th East Lancashire Regiment, later being
transferred to the 2nd South Lancashire’s. Badly wounded on the
10th April 1918 in the great German advance, he was taken prisoner, spending
time in hospitals in Belgium then in Stettin, Germany (now Poland).
He was repatriated on the 21st August 1918 and spent a further two years
recovering from his wounds in a London's Camberwell hospital, before being
finally discharged on the 1st April 1920
He said that he had been wounded near Ploegsteert Belgium”
