Philip Harold CLUCAS.
50 Squadron, Royal Air Force. Killed in action on 13 August 1944. Aged 22, he was the son of William and Annie Clucas of 69, Clive Street, Burnley, Lancashire. Philip was one of 4 brothers who served, including Joseph who was killed in the R.A.F., and Thomas, also of the R.A.F., who was a prisoner of war. He is buried with the other 6 members of his crew at Bas-Oha Communal Cemetery, Belgium. Sergeant Philip Clucas was an air bomber on Lancaster No. NB 135 of 50 Squadron. The aircraft took off from RAF Skellingthorpe at 21.30 hours on 12th August 1944 and was detailed to attack Russelhein but failed to return to base. A report from the Belgian Red Cross established that the Lancaster had crashed near Bas-Oha which is 5 kilometers west of Huy on the north bank of the River Meuse and the entire crew was killed and were buried in the parish cemetery. Buried in the Bas-Oha Communal Cemetery, Belgium. |
