51 Squadron, Royal Air Force (Volunteer Reserve). Killed in action on the 16 October 1942. Aged 25, the son of Benjamin and Edith M. Fielding. The Burnley Express reported: - Missing Airman. Mr and Mrs R Fielding of Red Lees Avenue, Burnley on Saturday received official notification that their eldest son, Sergeant Ronald Smith Fielding, is reported missing from an operational flight. Aged 25, Sergeant Fielding is a former Burnley Grammar School boy and before volunteering for the R.A.F., was employed by Mr J.W. Nobbs, motor body builder, Brunshaw Road, Burnley. Ten months ago Mr and Mrs Fielding received news that their youngest son, Leading Telegraphist G.S. Fileding, aged 21, was missing from H.M.S. "Neptune". Both boys attended St. Peter's Sunday School. Commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. |
