4th Battalion Coldstream Guards.

Killed in action on the 24 February 1945.

Aged 28, he was the son of Mr and Mrs Fort, of 9, Rochester Street, Burnley, Lancashire.

The Burnley Express of 17 March 1945 reported: -

Young Burnley Boxer Killed.

Corporal George Fort, a young Burnley boxer who shortly before the war was rapidly making a name for himself in the boxing world has been killed in action in Western Europe. He is the son of Mr and Mrs J Fort of 9, Rochester Street Burnley, and prior to joining the Guards Regiment 5 and half years ago he was employed by Platers and
Stampers Ltd. His wife and son live at 85, Ardwick Street He went to France on D-Day. His two brothers have served in the Army and one of them was recently discharged through wounds.

Buried in Rheinburg War Cemetery, Germany.
