1079192 Sergeant Irvine Illingworth, 78 Squadron, Royal Air Force. Killed in action, 28 August 1943. Buried in the Souilly Churchyard, France. Sergeant Illingworth was trained as a Wireless Operator and Air Gunner. The Burnley Express of 4 September 1943 has a short report includung the photo which states he was missing in action and that he was living with his aunt Mrs. A.E. Taylor at 82, Towneley Street, Burnley when war broke out. It also adds he worked at Gregory's Engineering and was educated at Heasandford School.
