The Burnley Express of 11 September 1943 reported: -

MISSING ON AIR OPERATIONS.

Mrs. Lee, of 45, Sycamore Avenue, Burnley, has been informed that her only son, Herbert Freeman Jowett is missing following recent air operations over enemy territory. Flight Engineer Jowett, aged 20, volunteered for air crew.....

Commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, Surrey.

Aged 20, he was the son of Evelyn Jowett and step son of Frederick Lee of Burnley, Lancashire.

Sergeant Jowett died when his Lancaster (EE-138) was shot down over Stadil, Denmark.
