The Burnley Express of 20 December 1941 reported: -

MISSING AFTER "REPULSE" SINKING.

Believed to have been on board H.M.S. "Repulse," sunk last week off Malaya, Stoker Clifford Leaver has been officially reported missing by the Admiralty. Notification was received on Thursday by his wife, Mrs. Marie Leaver of the Queen's Hotel, Holme-in-Cliviger.
Stoker Leaver, who was 25 years of age, joined the Navy last April. Well known in Burnley, he hails from the Harle Syke district.

1942 – LEAVER Clifford of 23 Red Lees-avenue, Burnley, died on or since 10 December 1941 on war service. Administration Llandudno 7 August to Marion Leaver, widow. Effects £126 19s. 6d.

Commemorated on the Plymouth Naval memorial, Devonshire.
