Died on 15 November 1945.

Aged 20, he was the son of Fred and Martha Smith of 66, Master Street, Burnley, Lancashire.

The Burnley Express of 24 November 1945 reported: -

Before enlisting in the army he was employed by J. Taylor and Co. Ltd who were Wine Merchants on Church Street and was a member of "F" Company, 29th Battalion of the Home Guard. He landed on the continent shortly after D Day and served in France and Germany. He was taken ill in October 1945 and was flown to a military hospital in Surrey where he died aged 20 on Thursday 15 November. After a service at St Peter's Church he was buried in Burnley Cemetery where his coffin was draped in a Union Jack.
