Aged 19, he was the son of Frank and Ellen Ann Whitaker, of Burnley, Lancashire.

Marine Frank Whitaker of 50, Queen Victoria Road, Burnley was killed in action on D-Day while serving with the Royal Marine Commandos. The news has now been received by his parents, Mr and Mrs F. Whitaker, who were informed in June that he was missing in Normandy.
Marine Whitaker volunteered for service with the Marines at the age of 17, and had been serving two and a half years. Before joining up he was employed by the Burnley Co-operative Society (grocery department), and was a member of St Peter's Church and Sunday School.
Buried in St Marie Cemetery, Le Havre, Seine Maritime, France.
