Awarded a bar to his Distinguished Flying Cross in the
Supplement to the London Gazette of 1944.
The Burnley Express of 17 January 1945 reported:-
Gains Bar to D.F.C.
Flight-Lieut. Alan Haworth, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Haworth,
of 173, Accrington Road, Burnley, has received a bar to his D.F.C.
Joining the R.A.F. as a volunteer in November, 1940, Flight-Lieut. Haworth
received his training in Southern Rhodesia, where he gained his observer's
"wing." He was promoted to pilot officer when he returned to
this country early in 1942. About six months later he was promoted to
flying officer, and was made flight lieutenant in January last year. In
January, 1943, he was awarded the D.F.C.
An old boy of St. Mary Magdalene's School and the Grammar School, he was
employed by the Post Office Savings Bank in London before joining the
R.A.F.
