His medals and other belongings are on display in the King's Own Royal Border Regimental Museum, Carlisle Castle, Carlisle, Cumbria, given by his daughters Jackie and Judith on behalf of the family in 2003.

"Tommy" Jackson was born at Burnley, Lancashire in 1919. He worked on the canals and as a coal miner before enlisting into the Border Regiment in July 1939. In March 1940 he was posted to the 2nd Battalion in India. He was awarded the Military Medal for gallantry during the fierce fighting south-east of Imphal during the Burma Campaign in the Spring of 1944. In December 1944 he returned to England and was posted with other reinforcements to the 1st (Airborne) Battalion. He served in Norway and Germany before being discharged in November 1946. Back in civilian life he worked in the cotton industry in Burnley until retirement in 1984. He devoted a large part of his social life as a member and secretary of the local Burma Star Association. Moreover, he is rembered by his family as a gentle and caring man, who looked after his wife who suffered from multiple selerosis for almost 50 years of their marriage. He died in 1997.
