"In recognition of distinguished services in the Middle East between February and July 1941".

The recommendation for his Military Medal reads: -

"This Bombardier was layer for his gun and fired continuously under heavy fire. When another sub-section had its Sergeant and Bombardier killed by machine gun fire, this Bombardier was put in charge of the sub-section. He pulled them together and commanded them with courage and confidence. In his capacity as layer it is certain he brought one plane down and scored hits on several others."
