Burnley Soldier Who Was Previously Posted “Missing” ( Burnley News July 29th 1916)

Previously reported missing, Pte. Robert Abbott, of the 1st East Lancashire Regt., is now officially stated to have been killed in action on July 1st. A sergeant of the regiment, writing to his widow, who resides at 3, Monmouth Street, Burnley, paid a tribute to the deceased soldier, who he wrote was very popular and they were keenly sorry to lose such a comrade. Deceased enlisted three weeks after the war broke out, and went to the Front nearly twelve months ago. He was 28 years of age, and formerly worked as a loomer at Messrs. Burrows’ Whittlefield Mill.
