His
papers survive and he enlisted into the 3rd Militia Battalion, East Lancashire
Regiment number 7463 in 1897 aged 17, he then transferred into the regular
army in 1898 as 13391, Private, Army Service Corps and again transferred
into the East Lancashire Regiment number 5532 serving with the regiment
until December 1904 when he transferred to the Army Reserve. Once out
of his reserve comittment it would appear he emigrated to Canada.
He earned his Africa GS Medal on attachment with the 9th Somali Camel
Corps with whom he served from December 1903 until October 1904.
