James Bones Colne Soldier’s Death Officially Reported ( Colne and Nelson Times 15th September 1916 ) A few weeks ago we announced that Private Charles Northage, of the Lancashire Fusiliers, formerly of 28, Windy Bank, Colne, was reported as being missing since July 7th last. It was then seven weeks since his wife had had any word from her husband who was 35 years of age. Private Northage enlisted in September 1914, and went out to France in June 1915. Prior to enlisting he was employed by Messrs J Smith and Co., Oak Mills, Colne, as a weaver, and he then resided with his wife and child at 12, King Street, Colne. His death is now officially reported. Private James Bones,
half brother of Private Northage, was killed in action on July 13th last.
This soldier was in the East Lancashire Territorials, and he was serving
when the War broke out. He was 22 years of age and unmarried
