WELL-KNOWN GANNOW LAD (Burnley Express and Advertiser 19th May 1917)

Much sympathy is extended to Mr. And Mrs. Bridge, of 95, Gannow-lane, Burnley, in the death of their only son, Pte William James Bridge (25286), of the East Lancashire Regiment, who was officially reported as killed in action on April 30th. Pte. Bridge was only 22 years of age. He enlisted in the East Lancashires on April 18th, 1916, at Burnley, and after training at Plymouth was drafted out in September, since which time he has taken part in some heavy fighting. Previous to joining the colours he was a weaver at Haslam’s Yatefield Mill, Burnley, and a scholar at St. John’s (Gannow) Sunday School. His name is on the roll of honour there.
