BURNLEY MINER MISSING (Burnley Express 28th October 1916 )

Mrs Clark, of 7 Barnes Street, Burnley, has been officially informed that her husband, Lance-Corpl. Joseph Harold Clark, of the East Lancashire Regt., has been reported missing since July 1st. The missing soldier, who is 22 years of age, was at camp at Workington with the Territorials when war was declared. He returned to Preston, and afterwards went to Plymouth. He has seen much fighting. In December last he was granted a short furlough, and since then he has not seen his wife, nor his youngest child six weeks old. Previous to enlistment he was employed as a drawer at Bank Hall Pit. Lance-Corpl. Clark has two other brothers out. Pte. George is with the Loyal North Lancashires. He only returned last Friday after a furlough at home. Pte. John Clark is with the Canadians. Mrs Clark has also a brother at the front, Pte. Hiram Tempest, who is with the Lancashire Fusiliers.
