William was a widower with two children who lived with his late wifes parents. He was wounded at the Dardenelles on the 8th August 1915 (shot in the thigh) and wounded again in the 2nd battle of the Somme where he died in an ambulance train he served as a bomb thrower.
His brother in law John Robert Howarth KIA 9/9/1916 in the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.
