Burnley Soldier Killed Just Before Promotion

The accompanying photograph is that of Private Thos. H. Grundy, of the Liverpool Scottish, who was 28 years of age, single, enlisted in November 1915, prior to which date he had for about three and a half years been in the Land Valuation Department at Burnley, and was exceedingly popular with his colleagues. Although he enlisted as a private, he was about to be given a commission, but volunteered for the Front before his promotion was gazetted. He hailed from Liverpool, but was well-known and held in the highest esteem by many friends in Burnley.
