KILLED IN HELPING WOUNDED
(Burnley Express & Advertiser - 16th May 1917)

Miss Hoole, of 4 Stansfield-st., Rosegrove, has just received the sad intimation that her brother, Pte. Abraham Hoole, died from wounds on the 7th May, she having previously received a wire that he was dangerously wounded and could not be visited. Pte. Hoole was a well-known local R.A.M.C. man in Rosegrove and Burnley districts, was 31 years of age and single. He joined the R.A.M.C. some two years ago and after experience in various hospitals in England was drafted to France, where, after two months service fell a victim whilst attending the wounded.
The Rev. C.J.H. Smith, chaplain, writes :- “Dear Miss Hoole, - It is with great regret that I have to tell you that your brother has passed away in this hospital. He was quite unconscious when he died, and it will be a great comfort to you to know he suffered no pain. I prayed with him before he lost consciousness and he told me that he trusted absolutely in the precious blood of our Lord. He sent his love to you. Please accept my deepest sympathy in your terrible trouble. Your brother died a hero, and gave his life for his country. I buried him yesterday in the military cemetery here and remembered you in my prayer at his grave.
Pte. Hoole was a native of Rosegrove, where his geniality and gentlemanly conduct had won the esteem of a large section of the inhabitants. Previous to enlistment he was a weaver at Imperial Mill, Rosegrove
