"Killed in action leading a patrol on the 1 December 1917. He was born at Cliviger in 1894 and attended Bury Grammar School whilst his father worked in a bank at Rochdale. Circa 1914 the family returned to Burnley. The address on the rear of his MIC is given as "Hill Crest" 386, Brunshaw Road, Burnley, Lancashire."
