"I have located the burial of John Lowden, Private Soldier aged 34 years who was interred in a pauper's grave on the 19th November 1915.
The grave situated within Lancaster Cemetery, Quernmore Road, Lancaster is Grave Number 618 Section G Consecrated. Most of graves on Section G Consecrated are pauper's graves i.e. ones which were not privately owned by individual families but were used by the Burial Board to inter several unrelated individuals within each grave space. As memorials
were not permitted on what are known as public graves (or common graves)there is no headstone on many of the graves (including this one) within this section."

"I am pleased to have been of assistance. In case it is of further assistance I have attached to this email a photograph taken by a colleague looking towards the grave place of Private Lowden. The grave would be roughly in the area of where the tree is growing in the foreground. This might be of assistance when placing flowers in the vicinity of the grave."
