Christopher Meehan (7347) of the 1st East Lancashire Regiment ,who lived
at 48 Temple Street ,was killed in action on May 3rd.His brother Mr. John
Meehan of 33 Anne Street ,who is in the 5th East Lancashire ,received
the sad intelligence on Monday morning. Pte.Christopher Meehan had previously
served seven years with the colours, five on the reserve of the 2nd East
Lancashires formerly the 39th. He had seen service in India and it is
about six years since he finished his time .before the war he was a weaver
,and in October last he joined the 1st East Lancashires sailing for France
the following month. Several letters have been received in Burnley from
soldiers at the front announcing Pte. Meehan’s death. He was about
36 years of age and unmarried.’’
