Private Frederick Nicholson
35388 2nd Highland Light Infantry
Killed in Action 23rd October 1918, aged 33
Lived at 10 Dent Row
Buried in Vertain Communal Cemetery & Extension, France
Burnley Express 9th
November 1918
He was born at 14
Birtwell Street, (leading off from Trafalgar Street), alongside Dent Row,
Burnley.
His birth was registered and his name, at birth on the 4th November 1884,
was Freddy Nichols.
He was one of three H.L.I. soldiers killed, together, on that day.
Subsequently, he and other siblings, had the family name changed to Nicholson.
One of two name changes made by my grandfather, who was in fact a Londoner
and as a member of the 59th Regiment of Foot, was stationed in Burnley,
having returned from Afghanistan in 1881
