Harold Smith (4251) 2nd Bn, Border Regiment, listed on your site was my great uncle, he was killed in action 16 February 1915, and buried at the Rue-Petillon military cemetery in France, he was born in Burnley, and lived at 25 Brunswick Street with his wife and children, I have some newspaper cuttings of his death notice from his family given to me by my uncle.
He was one of three known sons (there maybe four) of Charles and Sarah Jane Smith (nee Clayton) also from Burnley, most of the information I have leads to the Smith family living in Burnley for many years as several are buried in Burnley Cemetery.
Frank Wilfred Smith (wife Polly) was a member of the R.A.O.B, Turf Moor and Stocks Massey Lodge, he held office at the North East Lancashire District Council to name a few things he did, he was buried in Burnley Cemetery in 1933.
(Frank and Polly's son Wilfred Smith is also buried in Burnley Cemetery in 1931)
It seems that most of the men in the family did a fair bit for the town of Burnley from the records I have been given.
Charles Clayton Smith who was my Great Grandad was born in Burnley, one of his sons, Charles Smith born in Burnley moved down to Plymouth.
From what I have been told, Charles Smith and his sons, Frank Wilfred, Harold and Charles Clayton all went to the great war.
