Private Richard Stancombe This is a photograph of the Stancombe family. My Great Uncle, Richard Stancombe is included in the list of fallen on your site. A soldier in the Kings Own Royal Lancaster, he was killed in the Battle of Arras on 9th April 1917, aged 21. Until two years ago we were not sure where he was laid to rest, but then discovered, through the War Graves Commission, that he was buried at the Tilloy British Cemetery at Tilloy Les Mofflaines, northern France. We visited the grave 2 years ago to pay our respects. I suspect that we were the first family members to have visited the grave, his family probably could not have afforded the trip, and I know that his sister, my Great Aunt Lizzie, never managed the trip, so it was a very emotional moment.
