MOURNING WEEDS FOR WEDDING BELLS
PRIVATE KILLED WHO WAS ABOUT TO BE MARRIED
Burnley Express 29th July 1916)

Very grieving are the circumstances surrounding the death in action of Pte. Robert Hargreaves, aged 25, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. William Hargreaves, of 17 Cotton-st., Whittlefield. Pte. Hargreaves, was in the 1st East Lancashire Regt. He enlisted in March, 1915, and had been out to France about twelve months. He fell during the heavy fighting on the first day of our big offensive on the Western front. Pte. Hargreaves was formerly employed as a weaver at Olive Mount Mill, and was highly respected. He was a popular member of Burnley Lads’ Club, and along with his parents was connected with Holy Trinity Church and Schools. A distressing incident in the case is that Pte. Hargreaves was engaged and would have been married on his next leave. Mr. and Mrs. Hargreaves have three younger sons.

Mother named Olive, sister named Mary
