MOTHER LOSES HUSBAND AND SON (Burnley Express 5/10/1918)

Mrs. Threlfall, of 54, High-street, Burnley, has received the sad news that her son, Drummer Edwin Harling, 29753, of the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry, was killed in action on September 19th. A sad feature of this case is the fact that his step-father, Gunner J.T. Threlfall, R.F.A., died in France some time ago as a result of gas poisoning. Drummer Harling was single and 21 years of age. He joined up two years ago, and previous to doing so was a cloth finisher at Cairo Mill Dye Works. He attended St. Oswald’s and is on the roll of honour at Sandygate School.

Edwin’s stepfather was 5643 Gunner John Todd Threlfall of the Royal Field Artillery who actually died in England on the 7th of January 1918 and is buried at Wheatley Lane Churchyard, Fence.
