BURNLEY YOUTH KILLED
(Burnley Express 5/6/1915)

News was received by Mrs. Long, of 8 Dean-street, Burnley, on Wednesday that her only son Pte. Sidney Hugh Long (5378), 2nd Batt. East Lancashire Regiment, was killed in action on May 9th. Pte. Long had been in the special reserve for about two years and was a weaver by occupation. When war broke out he was in camp, but came home on furlough just before he went to France. Had he lived he would have celebrated his eighteenth birthday in June. He was formerly connected with St. Aidan’s Sunday School, and was for five years, in Holy Trinity Church choir.
