An official
communication from the War Office reached Mr. John Yates (formerly of
Burnley), at 73, Upper Stanhope-street, Liverpool, on Saturday last, announcing
the death in action of his son Albert, aged 29 years. Pte. Yates (203404),
who was in the
2/5th Manchesters, has been reported missing since October 5th, 1917,
and after the lapse of a year he is officially presumed dead. This is
Mr. Yates second loss in the war, his youngest son, Walter, being killed
in the Balkans on November 1st 1916.
