Driver Albert William Rumsan
13712 Royal Horse Artillery
Born in Preston under Scar in 1885
bied in Burnley in 1958
Lived at 49 Clevelands Road

My maternal grandfather was Albert. My mother Mary Ann said her father was “changed” after the war. No doubt he was adversely affected by what he experienced, like so many.
It was only when mother was very elderly that she said she understood more of what he had been through.
Albert worked in the stables for Hartley Livery Stables and in fact married Lily, the youngest daughter of Thomas Hartley the proprietor. Later Albert was a postman and I have a certificate from when he retired saying he had completed 45 years of service.

The other photo is of the four brothers, reading from left to right

Fred Rumsam born 1890 in P u Scar, died 1966 in Manchester
Francis/Frank born 1879 in Healaugh, Yorkshire, died ?

The father of the boys, Francis Wonacott Rumsam came from Coombe Martin in Devon and was the game watcher at Bolton Hall. A large family of course.

The uncle I knew as a child was Harold or Harry as he was known. He was married to Aunty Mary and they had a bakery in Worsthorne. When they retired they went to Lytham St Annes and eventually lived in a Methodist Home.

I did not know Francis (Frank) or Fred but from family history research I have learned that Frank had one son and died in Burnley. Fred also lived in Burnley and I met a grand daughter who was doing family history that had been started by her mother.
